The Midway Soccer team hosted West Bladen on Friday night as they celebrated Senior Night in the regular season finale. Midway cashed in on a strong performance to finish conference play with a 7-0 victory.
The Lady Raiders dominated the visitors, maintaining possession on their side of the field for most of the game. By halftime, Midway had raced out to a 5-0 lead.
Midway missed a few opportunities early as they applied pressure from the beginning, piling on their shots on goal total.
Their efforts paid off at the 29:54 mark as senior Manasia Cobb found the back of the goal to give her team the 1-0 lead.
Midway’s dominating performance continued, as the Lady Raiders maintained possession, amassing shots on goal.
With 18:58 remaining in the half, senior Emily Williams broke free for a one on one with the goal keeper. Williams would win that battle, notching another goal to give Midway the 2-0.
The flood gates opened for the Lady Raiders in the Lady Raiders in the final six minutes as they poured on three more goals, two of which game within fifteen seconds of one another.
With 5:58 left in the half, Kacie McLamb took it on her own among a crowd of defenders and scored the goal to increase Midways lead to 3-0.
Then, with 5:45 left, Manasia Cobb took it on her own as well and beat the last defender, firing the shot past the goal keeper to build Midway’s lead to 4-0.
Midway’s final goal of the half came with 4:10 remaining as Emily Williams snagged another goal off the assist by Ashlyn Warren. 5-0.
In the second half, Midway kept applying pressure, setting themselves up for more opportunities.
With 25:10 left in the game, senior Ashlyn Warren grabbed a goal, increasing the Raider lead to 6-0.
Then with around 20:00 left in the game, Midway senior Kimberly O’Brien scored a goal to bring the score to the final tally of 7-0.
After the game, Midway head coach Trey Apperson acknowledged that he was pleased with his team’s performance in the victory.
“Good game tonight. Tonight was all about the seniors,” he said. “This is a good group of seniors, most of which have been with us four years and have been really played solid for four years.”
“They’ve been the backbone of this team and tonight was no different. They all contributed and really played well as a team,” concluded Coach Apperson.
The Lady Raiders senior class included: Kimberly O’Brien, Ashlyn Warren, Karen Rangel, Anna Apperson, Olivia Davis, Emily Williams, Maribel Saucedo-Farkis, Manasia Cobb, and Lizzy Horton.
Midway concludes the regular reason finishing third in the Four County Conference with a record of 10-4 and an overall record of 14-5.
The Lady Raiders will be back in action next week for the first round of the state playoffs. Date, time, and location is yet to be determined.
