Midway Middle takes baseball championship

Midway’s first baseman attempts a pick-off on Richard Warren in the Raiders’ 10-5 win over the Wildcats in the Tournament Championship game Tuesday.


Midway Middle’s baseball team held off a determined Hobbton Middle to take the county baseball championship 10-5 at Midway Tuesday afternoon.

The Raiders jumped on the Wildcats in the first inning for a 3-0 lead that held until the 5th, when they picked up a couple more for a 5-0 lead. The Wildcats cut the lead to 5-3 in 5th; however, the Raiders picked up five more in the final two frames.

For the Raiders, Cal Tyndall and Cameron Barefoot scored two apiece, while Dawson Wiggins, Cole Avery, Cameron Calcutt, Will Johnson and Sawyer Sutton each scored one run.

Cameron Barefoot was 2-for-3, Calcutt was 2-for-2, and Sutton was 2-for-2.
