The Lakewood Country Club Annual Junior Golf Camp is set to return to the club this summer from June 15-17. The event will be free to all of the members of Lakewood Country Club and is $100 for non-members to participate. The age group ranges from kindergarten to 8th grade.
Local and talented members will help administrate the camp alongside Lakewood Country Club head golf pro, Curt Pritchard. Each camp member will receive lunch each day, a chance to go swimming in the pool, and a Lakewood Country Club t-shirt.
“This has gotta be our favorite event as a club throughout the year, I know it is my favorite for sure,” said Lakewood’s head pro Curt Pritchard. “To see all of the older, really good golfers that play out here take the time to come out and help teach these kids the game that they grew up loving or loved somewhere along the way, it is really an awesome thing to see. Then to see the kids of all ages out here loving the game and learning to love it, that is even better. The entire atmosphere and feel of this week does all of us that are a part of it a lot of good, and the kids obviously really love the event and have an absolutely tremendous time out there.”
The kids will focus on all aspects of the game. They will work on their driving, chipping, putting, iron shots, and everything in between. The kids will also learn when and where the right times are to hit certain clubs or play certain shots, and most importantly, according to Pritchard, they will have fun.
“That is the most important thing, no doubt about it at all,” said Pritchard. “We hope and our aim is that these kids can come away knowing the game of golf and the fundamentals of golf better, but we want them to have fun and love the game of golf. These kids are the future of golf in our area, and we realize the importance of starting them young and developing an interest and an understanding of the game.”
