Coach Alphonso Hooper was looking for his first career varsity win Wednesday as Hobbton hosted Princeton. The Lady Wildcats got the win 41-29.

Things looked doubtful early. Hobbton trailed 6-1 after 1 quarter and 9-6 at intermission. Both teams broke into the teens in the third quarter and the Lady Bulldogs led 17-14 headed to the final period.

Hobbton blistered the nets for 27 points in the quarter, while holding Princeton to 12.

Leading scorers for Hobbton were Annarose Schoonmaker with 17 and Brittany Evans with 14. Miesha Lewis added 7.

“I was real excited about getting my first win as a varsity head coach,” stated Hooper. “We started out slow. This was only our second game. Princeton has played several. In the fourth quarter, we went to 55 man and picked up on intensity. We’ve got to improve on free throws. We were 13 for 29 from the line.”

Hobbton will play at North Duplin Friday night.
