A 25-year-old Clinton man is facing felony drug possession charges after police officers arrived at his door investigating a 911 hang-up. Law enforcement arrived at the scene to discover a domestic dispute and uncovered over 730 grams of marijuana in the process.

Cory Dion Bennett, 24, of 606 Winfrey St., Clinton, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance. He was jailed under a $5,000 secured bond.

According to reports released Friday by the Clinton Police Department, Bennett and Julisa Garcia, 22, of 529 Fayetteville St., Clinton, were involved in a dispute when officers arrived at Bennett’s residence to investigate the 911 hang-up.

Investigators noted in the report that marijuana was scattered all over the lawn, leading to a vehicle, by which Bennett was standing.

Both were immediately taken into custody. Garcia was later charged with misdemeanor possession and released.

In all, 729.8 grams of marijuana was discovered. An additional 17.3 grams of the substance was found in a clear plastic bag.

Police officials could not provide additional information since an investigation is ongoing.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Bennett has two previous convictions: a misdemeanor injury to property conviction in April 2009 and a felony drug possession charge from November 2009.

Garcia has no previous convictions.
