For the second time this week, investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office are looking for information in an incident believed to be an arson.

According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, a 63-year-old man reported the small fire Wednesday morning around 9 a.m. after an unknown man stopped at his home and informed him that his vehicle was on fire.

The man reportedly ran to the side of the home and discovered his GMC van was on fire. He grabbed a chain and pulled the vehicle away from the home. However, the van was destroyed, and a portion of vinyl siding of the Newton Grove home was burned.

Damage to the van was estimated at $2,500 and $2,000 to the vinyl siding of the house, which was located on Rhianna Lane.

No injuries were reported.

Sheriff’s officials noted that the blaze was deemed suspicious and could only confirm that the incident is “under investigation” at press time.

On Sunday, a 58-year-old woman reported a blaze at 82 Scronce Road in Harrells. The woman reported seeing the vacant double-wide trailer, valued at $2,500, on fire around 2:45 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Office said they are still investigating both cases, which are not believed to be connected, in association with the Sampson County Fire Marshal’s Office, and are seeking information from the public.

Anyone who may have been nearby both incidents or knows something about the fire is asked to call the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-592-4141.
