In a formal, candlelight ceremony on New Year’s Eve in the First Baptist Church, 408 West Main Street of Wallace, Martha Anne Godwin became the bride of Nash Julian Johnson. The Rev. Stephen Matthew Prescott and pastor Bradley Thomas Carter officiated the seven o’clock double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ray Godwin of Spivey’s Corner. Her maternal grandparents are the late Frieda Simmons Parrish, and Joseph Paul Parrish of Spartanburg, S.C. Her paternal grandparents are the late Ermon Honeycutt Godwin and Christine Hairr Godwin of Spivey’s Corner. The bride is a 2007 graduate of Midway High School and a 2011 graduate of the East Carolina University, College of Nursing.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cowan Johnson of Rose Hill. His maternal grandparents are the late William Preston Reynolds, and Lou Ann Reynolds Weeks of Clinton. His paternal grandparents are the late Grace Carol Powell Johnson, and Edgar Marvin Johnson of Rose Hill. The groom is a 2006 graduate of Harrells Christian Academy. He attended Belmont University and received a Sound Engineering Degree in 2009 from SAE in Nashville, Tenn. He is currently employed with Nash Johnson & Sons, Inc. of Rose Hill. The couple’s wedding day was given to the glory of God in loving memory of their late grandparents; as well as, Edgar William “Will” Johnson, and James Bailey Johnson, brothers of the groom; and Edgar Marvin Johnson, Jr., uncle of the groom. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride was escorted to the altar by her father. The bride wore an original wedding gown designed by Pnina Tornai.

Scripture readers were Mrs. William Wayne Reynolds, aunt of the groom, of Topsail Island, and Mr. James Britton Surles, friend of the bride, of Spivey’s Corner. Musicians were Mr. Stan Iredell Benton, organist; and Mrs. Robert Lee Carr, flutist; Mr. Ruston Samuel Kelly, vocalist and guitarist; Mr. Robert Cowan Johnson and Mr. Robert Cowan Johnson, II , vocalists and guitarists; Mrs. Bradley Thomas Carter and Miss Sarah Margaret Stewart, vocalists. Acolytes were Mr. Thomas Smith Reynolds, cousin of the groom, and Mr. Samuel Caleb Thornton, cousin of the groom.

Mrs. Laura Godwin Honeycutt of Spivey’s Corner, and Mrs. Holly Godwin Johnson of Dunn were Matrons of Honor. Miss Carol Luanne Reynolds Johnson of Rose Hill, sister of the groom, was the Maid of Honor.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Amy Thomas Johnson of Wallace, sister-in-law of the groom: Miss Sarah Margaret Stewart of Spivey’s Corner and Mrs. Hilliary Godwin Williams of Willow Spring, cousins of the bride; Miss Caroline Marie Cottle of Elizabethtown, Miss Lora Kathryn Black of Roseboro: Miss Lauren Leigh Barefoot and Miss Erin Joyce Summerlin of Dunn, friends of the bride. Junior Bridesmaid was Miss Stephanie Joy Prestage, cousin of the groom, of Clinton.

Flower Girls were Miss Vivi Ann Thomas Johnson and Miss Willa Grace Johnson, nieces of the groom, of Wallace.

The groom had as his Best Man his father, Mr. Robert Cowan Johnson. The groomsmen were Mr. Robert Cowan Johnson, II of Wallace, brother of the groom: Mr. William Wayne Reynolds of Topsail Island, uncle of the groom: Mr. William Wayne Reynolds, II of Topsail Island, cousin of the groom; Mr. Jason McLamb Honeycutt of Spivey’s Corner, and Mr. Brandon Kerry Johnson of Dunn, brothers-in-law of the bride; Mr. Ruston Samuel Kelly of Nashville, Tenn., college friend of the groom; Mr. Corey Tokoly Barnhill of Clinton, Mr. Matthew Brandon Buckner of Hampstead, Mr. Adrian Zamora Mejia of Rose Hill, Mr. Adam Thompson Thomas of Wilmington, and Mr. Wesley Ryan Wilson of Magnolia, friends of the groom.

Ring-bearer was Master Brayden Kerry Johnson of Dunn, nephew of the bride.

Special honorees were Master Robert Cowan Johnson, III of Wallace, nephew of the groom; and Master Harrison Michael Honeycutt of Spivey’s Corner, nephew of the bride.

Directors of the wedding ceremony were Mrs. Charles Colwell Farrior, Jr. of Wallace, friend of the groom; and Mrs. Gary Alan Stewart of Spivey’s Corner, aunt of the bride.

Guest Register Attendants were Mrs. Douglas Nathan Baxley and Mr. William Casper Martin, Jr. of Spivey’s Corner, friends of the bride; and Mr. and Mrs. David Wayne Wells of Rose Hill, friends of the groom.

Program Attendants were Max Reynolds Prestage and William Scott Prestage of Clinton, cousins of the groom.

The Bride’s Attendants were Mrs. Arthur Carrol Rivenbark of Wallace and Mrs. William Edward Wilson of Rose Hill.

Reception

Following the ceremony, the bride’s family hosted a reception at River Landing Country Club in Wallace. Guests were greeted by Dr. and Mrs. Larry Price, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Jason Estes, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Ward, Mr.and Mrs. Scott Imwalle, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Batchelor, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Casteen, and Mr. and Mrs. Al Williams. As guests arrived, music was provided by Mr. Garrett Whipkey, saxophonist. After dinner, guests were entertained by the Craig Woolard Band. A fireworks extravaganza was viewed by all to bring in the new year.

After a wedding trip to St. Lucia the couple are residing in Rose Hill.

Rehearsal Dinner

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cowan Johnson, parents of the groom, were hosts to a rehearsal dinner for the couple, the wedding party, and out of town guests at the Mad Boar Restaurant in Wallace on the eve of the wedding. Appropriate toasts were given to the bride and groom at this time and special entertainment was provided by a Christian Music Band; as well as, family and friends of the groom.

Pre-Nuptial Events Honoring the Couple

On Sept. 18, a Celebration Dinner honoring the bride and groom at River Landing Country Club in Wallace was hosted by Mrs. Cindy Bass, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Crumpler, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Floyd, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Hairr, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Murphy, and Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Murphy.

On Oct. 9, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Reynolds, Mr. William Reynolds, and Mr. Smith Reynolds hosted a casual meal and engagement party at the Reynolds home at Topsail Island.

On Oct. 22, the bride and groom were honored at an engagement dinner at River Landing Country Club. The event was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Jason Estes, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Farrior, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kunselman, Dr. and Mrs. Larry Price, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Rivenbark, Mr. and Mrs. Don Tabor, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Teachey, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Ward, and Mr. and Mrs, Ben Weathers.

On Oct. 23, women of the Rose Hill United Methodist Church hosted a Wedding Shower honoring the bride and groom at the church fellowship hall.

On Oct. 29, a Chicken Pickin Engagement Party was given in honor of the bride and groom at the Rose Hill Town Hall. The Wedding Feast Cookbooks which contained recipes from family and friends of the Godwin and Johnson families were presented to all guests. The event was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Barnhill, Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Buckner, Mr. and Mrs. Fuzzy Buckner, Mrs. Harry Carlton, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Brad Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Herbie Cottle, Mr. and Mrs. Freddy Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Greg Maready, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Saunders, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wachter, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wells, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wells, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wilson.

On Nov. 4, a Christmas Shower was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Beasley, Ms. Maryanna Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Phillips, and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Smith at River Landing Country Club in Wallace.

On Nov. 12, the bride and groom were honored at an Old Fashioned Roasted Turkey Feast at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Prestage of Clinton.

On Nov. 13, friends and family of the bride hosted a Wedding Shower in honor of the bride and groom at Shady Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church at Spivey’s Corner.

On Dec. 17, a Bridesmaid Brunch honoring the bride and her bridesmaids was hosted by Mrs. Gary Stewart and Mrs. Pat Godwin, aunts of the bride, at the Barrington House in Dunn.

On Dec. 31, a Groomsmen Luncheon honoring the groom and his groomsmen was hosted by the groom’s family at River Landing Country Club in Wallace.
