Investigators are looking for the person responsible for dumping five dogs at a Newton Grove-area trailer park over the weekend, leaving the dogs to survive on their own.

According to Sampson County Animal Control officer Andrew Worley, eyewitnesses noticed a white pickup truck unload the five medium-sized dogs at 607 Mt. Olive Drive Sunday, Aug. 12 around 5:40 p.m.

“Right now, we are searching for who the driver of that truck was, which is why we are asking the public to help us,” Worley said Thursday.

Although the dogs were abandoned, residents in the trailer park have been taking care of them, he oted.

“We haven’t had any complaints about them in the park,” he said. “The people there have been feeding and taking care of them.”

Worley said that if anyone was in or around the area and may have seen the truck or know the person who abandoned the animals, he would like to hear from them.

“It is important that we find the person responsible for this,” he stressed.

If found, that person is facing a Class 2 misdemeanor.

If you have information on this incident call Worley at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-592-4141.
