MOUNT OLIVE — Mount Olive College has been recognized as a “College of Distinction” by an online guide that puts the spotlight on the “hidden gems” of higher education.
Mount Olive College is one of six colleges and universities in North Carolina recognized by the website collegesofdistinction.com, which is designed for prospective college students, their parents and high school counselors. The schools listed on the website are judged in four areas: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities and successful outcomes. Featured schools take a holistic approach to admissions, consistently excel in providing undergraduate education, and have a truly national reputation.
Schools listed in the guide are nominated by high school counselors. Selection is based on information gleaned from college admissions experts, administrators at other colleges and high school counselors, and on data involving classroom size and other key statistics.
This is the second year that Mount Olive College has been included on the list. President Philip P. Kerstetter said, “I am pleased that, once again, Mount Olive College has been recognized as a College of Distinction. Our mission is to transform the lives of our students through their educational experiences here, and it is rewarding to know that others recognize the great things that are happening at Mount Olive College.”
In its section profiling Mount Olive College, the guide says that “Mount Olive College has become one of the most unique and fastest growing colleges in North Carolina. The College offers rigorous academic programs, over 40 undergraduate majors, experienced faculty, small class sizes and Division II athletics with a winning tradition. Grounded in the liberal arts, Mount Olive College helps individuals realize their creative potential while preparing graduates for professional careers.”
Offering dynamic college profiles and easy-to-use search tools, the website includes tips from high school guidance counselors, essays from college students, presidents and other members of campus communities.
Tyson Schritter, executive editor of the guide, said, “Schools selected as Colleges of Distinction create well-rounded graduates and are among the very best in the country. While each school is one of a kind, they all share a common theme: they are all a great place to get an education.”
