Janet M. Creech, 79
CLINTON — Mrs. Janet M. Creech, 79, of 104 Jefferson St., Clinton, passed away on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012.
A home-going celebration will be held on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at Rowan Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor N. Ray Phillips, the Rev. Gene Waters, the Rev. Tyler Jernigan and the Rev. Matthew Creech officiating. She will be laid to rest in a ceremony immediately following the service in Clinton Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Rowan Baptist Church from 3 to 6 p.m.
Mrs. Creech was born on June 7, 1933 in Princeton, North Carolina to John Henry and Mamie Holloman Massengill. Mrs. Janet as she was affectionately known worked for 20 years with Carolina Telephone and after retirement at the Good News Book Nook in Clinton. For 59 years Mrs. Janet was married to her sweetheart L.D. and served as First Lady in pastorates in Fayetteville, Greensboro and Clinton. Mrs. Janet was a member of Rowan Baptist Church where her grandson Rev. Matthew Creech serves as Youth Pastor. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed mowing her lawn and tending her roses. Her trumpet trees were her pride and joy and she loved sharing them. She also was a former dog breeder and loved her two Maltese puppies. She was proud of her two sons and two daughters, but that prided expanded with each grandchild and great-grandchild that entered the family. Her Christian values and love for the Lord was evident in her life and she made sure her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren were aware of the need for Jesus in their lives. She also had a ministry of sending cards. She kept boxes of cards by her favorite chair and sent cards to anyone that she heard was sick, lost a loved one, or needed cheering up. We will miss her phone calls, text messages, chocolate fudge at Christmas and her strawberry pies. The loss of our wife, and mother is great and unexpected however, we’ve learned by her influence that Blessed Be the Name of the Lord You give and take away My heart will choose to say Lord bless your holy name Blessed be the name of the Lord.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. L.D. Creech; one son Danny A. Creech and wife Karen of Clinton; two daughters, Linda Creech Andrews and husband Wayne of Sanford, Sharon Creech Jernigan and husband Rev. Charles Ray of Clinton; one special daughter-in-law, Debra W. Creech of Parkton; two sisters, Joyce Joyner and husband Bob of Goldsboro, Barbara Gresko and husband Chuck of Chesterfield, VA; nine grandchildren, Christie Andrews Wiley and husband Stephen of Virginia, Phillip Andrews and wife Elizabeth of Clinton, Cameron Creech and Ashley Creech both of Parkton, Rev. Matthew Creech of Clinton, Crystal Jernigan O’Mara and husband Patrick of Hampstead, Jack Gunnells and wife Lesa of Clinton, Rev. Tyler Jernigan of Clinton; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary Wiley, Chandler Hood, Caitlin Hood, Christoper Wiley, Berkley Wiley, Jackson Gunnells, Brody Gunnells.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Henry and Mamie Holloman Massengill; one son, Larry Dale Creech; one sister, Hilda House; two brothers, Bill Massengill and Harold Massengill.
