The Lakewood Leopards volleyball team went into Midway territory Thursday night and came out with a sweep over the Lady Raiders .

JV

Lakewood’s JV team beat Midway 2-0 (25-15 and 25-23) in the opening games behind solid play from Emily Lewis, Rashyda Parker, Aleah Parker and Kiara Rich, all of whom were in double digits during the games.

“It was an important win for us,” said Lakewood head coach Sheila Davidson. “With only four games left, it puts us up.”

The Lady Leopards are perfect in the conference at 10-0.

Leaders in the win were: Alyssa Horne, 3 kills, 5 service points; Lewis, 12 assists; Rashyda Parker, 13 kills, 8 blocks; Aleah Parker, 10 service points and 2 aces; and Rich, 11 kills, 3 blocks and 8 service points.

Varsity

The Lady Leopards improved to 10-1 in the conference after battling a strong Midway team Thursday in their 3-0 victory. Final scores of the match were: 25-18; 25-19; and 25-13.

Led by an impressive performance by Allyson Heinz, who dazzled with 28 assists, 7 service points, 3 aces and a kill; and Morgan Herring, who finished with 11 kills, 11 service points and 5 aces, the Leopards jumped out early and never looked back.

However, the Lady Raiders did make a move in the second game knotting the contest at 19, but a timeout by Davidson allowed her team to regroup and settle down.

The standout of the game was Teisha Rich, who finished with 4 aces, 12 points, 14 kills and 1 block.

“They didn’t have an answer for her,” said Davidson. “Everything she hit was solid. She has been working very hard and it has really shown.”

Other leaders for Lakewood were: Bailey Dudley, 4 kills, 1 block, 8 points and 5 aces; Jache Seveance, 4 aces, 3 kills and 1 block; Katie Stewart, 10 points, 3 aces.

With the win, Lakewood will play Tuesday at James Kenan.
