CLINTON — Mr. John Rainey Parker Jr., 80, of 591 Airport Road, died at his home Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rick McDuffie officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.

Born in 1931 in Hot Springs, Ark., Mr. Parker was the son of the late Cora Mae Townley and the late James Luther Townley. He was the adopted son of the late John Rainey Parker Sr. and the late Ollie Marlette Parker. He was a member of the Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church and a retired attorney. John attended Warren-Wilson High School in Asheville. He completed undergraduate studies at UNC-CH, then enlisted in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran. After attending UNC School of Law, John was admitted to the N.C. Bar. He served for several years on the N.C. State Bar Ethics committee and was a board-certified Criminal Law Specialist. He practiced law for 50 years. John was active in the Clinton Jaycees and the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Gale Parker; daughter, Sarah Parker Foster and husband, Randy of New Bern; son, Rainey Parker of Salemburg; five sisters, Allah Lyons of Platsmouth, Neb., Mittie Davenport of San Diego, Calif., ElNora Bull of Nixa, Mo., Patsy Kuster of Bakersfield, Calif., and Dottie Killian of Bakersfield, Calif. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7 until 8 p.m.
