Union Elementary School promoted good citizenship and community spirit by having a ‘Citizenship Day’ this past Saturday. Here, students, parents and employees enjoy the penny social, one of many activities provided as part of the event. The effort was to foster the relationship between the school, students’ families, and the surrounding community. UES promoted the message of 'taking pride in your work' to students, families and the community. UES officials said they were proud of their students and their successes, and wanted all stakeholders, families and the community to know that 'we all have a vital role in nurturing our students to become educated and productive citizens.' Among the local businesses and organizations involved were: VFW, Farm Bureau, Prestage Farms, Pack 70, Carr Real Estate, Walgreens, Taylors Bridge Fire Department, Sampson County Public Library, Dairy Queen, Hope Family Farms, Piggly Wiggly, East Park Cinema, Glenna’s Café, Mar-Cel Company, Clinton Drug Co., Sunshine Gallery, Edna’s Florist, Sampson County Parks and Recreation, U Care, Four Oaks Bank, Garland Pizza, Kyle’s Farm, Domino's Pizza, G&B Garden, Cooperative Extension, Lisbon Enterprises, Don’s Rent a John, the Health Department, Black’s Tires, Pearls Academy and the Union Advisory Board.
