Hobbton Middle’s Wildcats improved their record to 3-1 after a dominant four set win over the visiting Union Spartans.

Hobbton coach Chip Pollock stated that “this was our first complete win of the season. We’ve played well at times in each of our matches, but this was the first time I thought we looked strong in all facets of play for an entire match.”

Hobbton’s balanced attack started from the opening serve and cruised to an easy win 25-7. “I was surprised at how well we played out of the gate. Alona (Rhodes) 10 straight service points was the key for us. She was really on today,” Pollock stated.

Union came out stong in the second set and won 25-10 behind aggressive serving by several players.

The Wildcats finished the match with two straight 25-11 sets.

“This was an especially gratifying victory for us. Union has emerged as probably our biggest rival over the past few years as we are often very evenly matched. Getting a win like this is rare over them and might help set the tone for Monday when we have the rematch in their building. Hopefully we’ll have a similar result,” Pollock said.

Leading the Wildcats were Nina Devone, Rhodes, Caitlyn Stegal, Madison Warren, and Makenzie Williams.

The teams meet again at 4 p.m. on Monday at UMS.
