Crusaders take down N. Raleigh

The Crusaders got another win under their belt Friday nigh, defeating North Raleigh Christian 38-21 in a home game.

As they have all season, Harrells was able to win the game on the ground, rushing for a total 401 yards, while the Knights racked up only 18 yards.

North Raleigh played stronger from the air, passing a total of 272 yards to the Crusaders 73, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Harrells team from getting another solid W.

The Crusaders possessed the ball for 29:22 minutes, with only two turnovers. North Raleigh had control of the ball for 18:38, with only 2 turnovers.

Harrells got on the scoreboard first when Walton Fisher made a 28-yard field goal, putting the Crusaders up 3-0. They followed that about five minutes later with a Kelly Nelms 80-yard touchdown run. Fisher’s point after was good, and Harrells had a solid 10-0 before the end of the first quarter.

Nelms went in again with just seconds left in the first, this time from 27 yards out for another Crusader TD. The PAT was good and Harrells had the lead 17-0.

Midway the second quarter, the nights took to the air, and a John Cook pass to Charlie Davisson put them on the board. Their extra point was good and the score was 17-7.

Just like the first quarter, Nelms took command with only a few seconds left, rushing 39 yards for a TD. Fisher’s extra point was good and the Crusaders took a 24-7 lead into the half.

Nelms, on fire, opened the third quarter of play with yet another touchdown, this one a 36-yard run into the end zone. Fisher added the extra point.

North Raleigh answered with a TD of its own with just 3:30 left in the third period when Cook hit Josiah Eward for a 65-yard completion and the touchdown. Corey Lewis made the extra point.

In the fourth quarter, Nelms plowed into the end zone again, rushing for 12 yards and the TD. Fisher’s point was good.

The Knights went in the air again, this time Cook to Davisson for a 6-yard play and the final touchdown of the evening. Lewis sent it through the uprights for the extra point, giving North Raleigh another 7.

Individually for Harrells, quarterback O.H. Roushe completed 4 of 5 passes for a total 73 yards in the air.

Nelms had 28 carries for 283 yards; Channing Kelly had 20 carries for 55 yards; Zack Carlton had 13 carries for 72 yards.

Fisher was perfect, making his 1 field goal attempt and of his PATs.

On the defense, Frederick Strickland had 8 tackles; Nelms, 6; Kelly, 7; Rouse, 5; Whaley Casteen, 5; Carlton, 3; Patrick Walker, 3; and Matthew Allen 3.
