Varsity ‘Cats get Senior Night win over Raiders

Hobbton and Midway tangled on the volleyball court Thursday in the final regular game of the season and Senior Night for the Wildcats, with the home team taking the varsity match and Midway’s JV walking away with the opening match.

“This was a great win for us, particularly on senior night,” said an elated coach Russell Jones of his Lady Wildcats. “They rallied around our injured player (McKenna Smith) and went out there and won the game. They played really hard and I’m proud of them.”

Smith was injured during the game, but no condition update was available at press time.

The varsity ‘Cats took the cross-county rivalry in five games — 25-15; 25-22; 23-25; 17-25; 15-11.

Individually for Hobbton, Taylor Bowden had 9 aces, 2 kills, 26 assists and 16 digs; Marcie McLamb had 2 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist and 26 digs; Casey Hobbs, 5 aces, 15 kills, 1 assist, 5 blocks, 1 dig; Michaela Wilson, 5 aces, 9 kills, 1 assist, 23 digs; Courtney Phipps, 2 kills, 2 assists, 14 digs; Smith, 5 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs; Haley Evans, 4 digs; Brittney Testerman, 1 dig; and RayAnn Eldridge, 3 digs.

No stats were called in for the Raiders.

Hobbton’s varsity moves to 10-10 overall and 5-9 in the Tri-County Conference. The conference tournament begins next Monday.

In JV action, Midway’s younger Raiders got the sweep 10-25, 10-25.

For Hobbton, Melissa Galleagos had 1 assist, 4 digs; Kaley Matthews, 1 ace, 3 kills; Haley Martinez, 1 dig; Reese Holland, 6 digs; Taylor Aman, 8 digs; Samantha Monk, 4 digs; and Janisa Lopez, 4 digs.

No stats were called in for Midway’s JV.
