Harrells Christian pummeled the Village Christian Knights Friday night, getting a 63-7 road win.
The Crusaders continued their ground attack, picking up a total 481 yards while their opponents only amassed 111 rushing yards on the night and 48 in the air. The Crusaders had 70 passing yards.
The Knights turned the ball over three times as compared to no turnovers for the Crusaders, who scored a total nine touchdowns and possessed the ball a total 29:56 minutes.
Harrells started the game strong, with Crusader Russell Washington getting his first touchdown on the evening, a 70-yard run at the 8-minute mark in the first quarter. Walton Fisher made the point after, and Harrells was up 7-0.
The Crusaders scored again at the 2:50 mark in the first period, when Washington rushed 4 yards into the end zone. Fisher’s PAT was good, and Harrells had a commanding 14-0 first quarter lead.
Washington, on fire, rushed in from 7 yards out at the 10-minute mark in the second quarter. Fisher made the extra point, giving the Crusaders a 21-0 lead.
At the five-minute mark of the second period, Crusader Channing Kelly rushed 81 yards for the next Harrells TD. Fisher got the ball through the uprights and HCA was beginning the rout, with a 28-0 lead.
About a minute later, Kelly, on a 3rd and 9 play, intercepted a pass from Knights quarterback Dustin Osborne and ran it in for Harrells’ fifth TD of the night. Fisher got another PAT and HCA was up 35-0.
At the 10-minute mark in the third quarter, HCA quarterback O.H. Rouse put it in the air, hitting Nelms for 70 yards and the TD. Again Fisher got the PAT and it was an obvious runaway by the Crusaders.
Washington got his third TD of the night at the 4:22 mark of the third period, rushing for 76 yards and a TD. Fisher got the extra point.
Then Kelly turned on the juice again, rushes for 3 for the TD. Fisher again made the extra point.
But the Knights were determined, and at the 9:11 mark in the fourth quarter, Billy White rushed for 3 for a touchdown. White also made the PAT and Village Christian had 7 points on the board.
Harrells wasn’t done yet though, as Nelms rushed for 13 yards and the final TD of the night. Fisher made the extra point and Harrells took the win.
Individually for the Crusaders, Rouse was 7 for 15 for 100 yards.
Nelms amassed 106 yards on 13 carries and added another 64 yards from the air; Washington, 101 yards on 15 carries; Channing Kelly, 28 yards on 12 carries; and Rouse gained 24 yards on 4 carries.
On defense, Washington had 6 tackles; s; Zack Carlton, 5 tackles; Fredrick Strickland, 4 tackles; Matthew Allen, 4 tackles; Rouse, 4 tackles; and Ben Parker, 5.
