Clinton’s Dark Horse soccer team clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2A East Central Conference after Swansboro defeated Topsail earlier this week.
An elated coach Brad Spell congratulated his team on a great season and for the great effort they put forth to secure the top spot and the conference title.
“It’s been a great year for these guys. They’ve worked hard during the regular season. Now it’s time to refocus, refuel and look toward next week and the playoffs. We still have unfinished business,” Spell asserted.
Clinton will have the home field advantage starting next week, when the playoffs begin. Spell is hoping to begin that play on Tuesday, but the night has yet to be determined.
The Horses, who beat Topsail by a half game, finished the regular season at 14-5-2 overall and 9-1-2 in the conference.
“I couldn’t be prouder of these guys. They have played with great heart all season long. They’ve got to take that heart and that hunger to win into the playoffs now,” the Dark Horse coach stressed.
