A Clinton man on Wednesday became the 25th person arrested this month as part of Operation Scarecrow, an undercover campaign that has scared up well over 100 felony warrants encompassing drug sales and distribution all over Sampson County.
The latest arrest in the campaign, initiated by the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division, was Jonathan Brett Carter, 28, of 280 Twin Oaks Lane, Clinton, who was served multiple felony warrants stemming from the “Scarecrow” investigation.
Carter was charged with six counts of selling and delivering cocaine, as well as served an order for arrest for failing to appear in Duplin County on a charge of simple possession of marijuana, reports state. The felony drug warrants were issued Oct. 5 and the order for arrest on the out-of-county warrants were issued in July.
According to his arrest report, 3.9 grams of crack cocaine were seized from Carter during the incident.
Operation Scarecrow, a six-month undercover investigation targeting the sale and distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and prescription pills, started as a result of citizen complaints. The operation involved SID agents conducting undercover buys which subsequently led to dozens upon dozens of warrants being issued.
Carter, the 25th arrest made since Oct. 4, was taken into custody at the Sampson County Detention Center and given a bond of $35,500 for the charges against him.
