Clinton’s playoff hopes were dashed in the first round Friday, although the Horses gave it everything they had before falling to South Columbus 31-20.

The Horses improved from their previous year’s record, though, by making it to the playoffs at all, and at times, it looked as if Clinton would advance, but the home team took control towards the end of the game and send Clinton packing.

Beginning the game with energy, the Horses took on South Columbus with everything they had, with hopes of a win. But South Columbus had hopes of its own. They scored first, taking a 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

South Columbus scored again in the second period, making it 16-0 before the Horses came alive. Halfway into the game, the score would be 16 to 6, but with South Columbus still in the lead. The score remained at 16-6 through the first half.

South Columbus and Clinton would put on a good fight for their fans. With both teams being competitive, Clinton and South Columbus would each score another touchdown in the third quarter, raising the score to 23-13.

With 12 minutes left, Clinton got another touchdown, raising to close in at 23-20, but South Columbus would not be denied, scoring another touchdown.

Fighting until the last seconds off the game, Clinton would play a worthy game against South Columbus.
