KENANSVILLE – The James Sprunt Foundation hosted its 27th annual golf tournament Oct. 4 at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, raising over $15,000 towards student scholarships.

Twenty-three teams played in the tournament in support of the James Sprunt Foundation and James Sprunt Community College in its major fundraising event of the year. The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for scholarships for deserving JSCC students.

“The funds raised by our Foundation golf tournament, as well as other efforts, have a great impact on whether or not many of our students can attend or remain at JSCC and complete their programs of study,” said Dr. Lawrence Rouse, JSCC president. “We are grateful to all those who have volunteered their time and energy to make this a successful tournament.”

With a score of 55, first place went to the Murphy-Brown, LLC Team with Dennis Puckett, Jimmy Money, Rick Wells, and Neil Armstrong. Each player received a $100 cash prize. With a score of 58, second place was taken by the Tee Busters with Jimmy Coltren, Christian Holmes, Bob Cook and Robbie Cook. Each player received a $50 cash prize.

Garry Moorefield had the longest drive. Closest to the pin were Jimmy Money and Greg Buckner. Each of these winners received a dozen Titleist Velocity Balls from the River Landing Pro Shop.

In the raffle drawing, Neil Armstrong won an Adams Watson Chrome Wedge three pack and Ken Avent won 4 rounds of golf at River Landing. John Murray won the 50/50 shoot out contest, taking home $275.

The Bay Valley Team with Bobby Lane, Robert McCarty, Ken Avent and Kent Malpass won the team putting contest receiving $27.50 each.
