The Sampson Middle Dark Horses held on to their top-ranking and their undefeated status Tuesday night after defeating Roseboro-Salemburg 22-8.
SMS coach Tracey Thornton said he was pleased with the way his boys played. “They showed great effort in the game. We had to make some adjustments, and they were able to do that and give a good showing. I was pleased.”
Deshaun Register put Sampson on the scoreboard first with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Raheem Skinner. Skinner got the TD and then turned around and made the 2-point conversion to put the young Horses up 8-0.
It remained 8-0 through the half.
Roseboro came back after the break and took one into the end zone on a 50-yard pass play. The score was 8-6.
But Sampson was looking a victory. A 30-yard run from Emari Oates set up the touchdown play on the next down from Skinner who ran it in from 2 yards out.
Skinner also made the final TD of the afternoon, this one started from a defensive play when the young Dark Horse took the ball from the R-S quarterback and ran it back for the touchdown.
Sampson moves to 7-0 on the season. Their final game is next Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Union. Game time is 4 p.m.
