The Just-A-Mere Garden Club met on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the home of Mrs. Wilma Jean Wise, 3531 Wrench Road, Dunn. There were 16 members present along with one guest, Mrs. Sheila Oglesbee, sister of Mrs. Wise.
In the absence of club president Bonnie Jackson, first vice president Sybil West presided. The collect was read and a moment of silence was observed in memory of Mrs. Violet K. Williford, who died recently.
Mrs. Williford, age 103, was the last of the club’s charter members and a former club president.
Mrs. Eloise Warren gave devotion on praising God and giving thanks for all blessings. Our program focused on the “Blue Star Memorial,” which was first initiated in 1947 by the National Garden Club. The “Blue Star Memorial” is symbolic of hope and pride in our military. Club members Elsie Jackson, Willa Baker, Sara Jackson and Wilma Jean Wise presented memoirs relating to the project that is being sponsored in the Spivey’s Corner area by Just-A-Mere Garden Club.
After business reports were completed, club members recited the club motto and meeting was adjourned.
Elsie Jackson won the hostess door prize and each member was given a planting of “Devil’s Backbone” presented by the hostess.
