Lakewood’s young JV girls opened their season Thursday night with a sound thumping of Southern Wayne’s Saints. Final score 63-19.

Although the high-scoring Leopards showed talent in defensively, creating opportunities to score, assistant coach Vonnie McNeil said there were still some areas that needed work.

“We are a young team and we are working to build them into a strong team,” McNeil said. “I thought we had a strong defensive showing Thursday, and we pushed the pull well.”

Lakewood scored 17 points in the first quarter, 8 in the second and 12 in the third, holding the Saints to under 20 points by game’s end.

JV Leopard Brianna Evans led all scorers with 23 points. Jada Moore had 10; Kiera Henry, 10; and Aja Stevens, 7.

Lakewood travels to Dark Horse country Monday for a game against the Lady Dark Horses.
