CLINTON — Mr. Robert DeLeon Pope, 83, of 244 Concord School Road, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, at his home.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Roseboro with pastor John Hobbs officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Pope, a native of Sampson County, he was the son of the late Jasper H. Pope and Bessie Cannady Pope and was the widower of Ruby Williams Pope. Robert was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a choir member, a former member of the board of Farm Bureau and the National Farmers Association, and a veteran of the North Carolina Army National Guard. He was the last of 10 children and most important he was a faithful husband and father.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Pope Ward and husband, Randy; two sons, Bill Pope and wife, Sharon, and Sidney Pope, all of Clinton; a grandson, Chad Pope and fiancé, Amber Tyndall; and a granddaughter, Lindsay Pope, all of Clinton; three sisters in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his long time caregiver, Sandra Jones and her husband, Paul.

The family received friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton and other times at the home, 244 Concord School Road, Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1481 Fleet Cooper Rd., Roseboro, NC 28382.
