The Lady Raiders hosted Rosewood Monday night hoping to avenge a loss from 10 days ago. In the earlier matchup, Rosewood freshman sensation Lexi Mercer scored 33 points against Midway. The Lady Raiders held her to just 14 this time, but fell short on the scoreboard, 54-41.

Midway trailed 10-9 after one quarter. In the second period, the Lady Raiders were able to find Jennifer Blackmon on the inside several times. The result was a 10-point quarter for the senior. Rosewood, however, did hang on to a 28-24 lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Lady Eagle defense would not allow Blackmon the ball with any regularity, and the Lady Raiders trailed 41-33 after three quarters.

The final period belonged to the visitors as they posted a 54-41 win.

Blackmon led Midway with 19 points. She also snagged 14 rebounds. Kaitlyn Jackson dropped in 8. Jada Cannady scored 4, while Haley Beasley came off the bench to contribute 4 points. Chakerria Rhodes nailed a long distance shot for her 3 points. Hannah Hubbard added 2. Amber Poole contributed 1 point and 5 assists.

“They forced us to shoot from the outside in the second half and our shots didn’t fall,” remarked Midway coach Jennifer Honeycutt. “Rosewood’s got a good team. Our goal going in was to hold number 2 (Lexi Mercer) down. She got 14, less than half of what she had before, but their outside shooters stepped up.”

Alicia Burns led the Lady Eagles with 18 points.

The Lady Raiders fall to 1-6. They will travel to Heide Trask next Tuesday to begin Tri Counties Conference play.
