The varsity Horses came onto the court determined to bring Clinton home a perfect night against the Bulldogs, and they did just that, holding on for the 61-58 victory.
Although the Horses seemed to have a lead in the beginning, they quickly realized Wallace was stepping up their game. With Shian Bradshaw and Demontio Bryant leading the way, the Horses ended the first quarter up 21 to 11.
But Wallace would not go away.
As the Bulldogs tried to play catchup, the Horses maintained strong defense, while finding the basket, going into the half up 40-24.
The Bulldogs, though, turned up the heat in the third quarter, slowly cutting into Clinton’s lead, and by quarter’s end had got within 4 at 46-42.
But Clinton could taste the win and they held on throughout a closely contested final quarter to get the win.
Shian Bradshaw led scoring with 15 points while Demontio Bryant and Ryan Chester added 13 a piece.
Clinton will host a rematch with the 1A Union Spartans tonight. The Horses brought home the first win against the Sampson County rival.
