Clinton’s varsity girls opened their conference season with a home win against Richlands. Final score was 33-25.
Coach Chris Owens acknowledged that it was a low-scoring game and that his Lady Horses weren’t playing as good as they could play, but said he was pleased to get the win all the same.
“I’ll take a W every time,” Owens stressed, “but we really didn’t shoot the ball as well as I know we can, either. I don’t want to take anything away from the girls, because, overall, they played a good game; it just wasn’t our best one, but we still did what we had to do to get the win.”
As it has been all season, defense, Owens said, was the key to the Dark Horse win.
“Our man-to-man defense really pressured them and kept them from shooting well, too. We held them down, and that helped us,” Owens said.
Courtney Pearsall and Lexie Simpson led scoring for Clinton’s girls Tuesday, with 11 points each. Kristen Glasper had 6 points; Bianca Owens had 2; and Tiandra Johnson had 1.
Clinton improves their record to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They travel to East Bladen Thursday night for a non-conference game.
