Clinton’s Varsity boys dominated the Swansboro Pirates Friday night and came away with a decisive 85-23 win.

Starting the night off iin complete control, Clinton would find a lead minutes into the game, including a dunk from Dark Horse Shian Bradshaw, and hold onto it throughout, ending the first frame 24-3.

Clinton’s players all contributed their set of skills on the court as the night progressed. Allowing Swansboro only 10 more points by the end of the first half, Clinton held the Pirates in their hands 45-13 heading into the break.

Gaining 24 more points, Bradshaw and Demontio Bryant would lead their team closer to a grand victory. With a score of 69-18 at the end of the third quarter, the Pirates continued fighting even though the Horses held the upper hand.

With Wil Pearson and Alphonso McDew scoring more points, Clinton raised their score to 85 as the last seconds ticked away, leaving Swansboro behind at 23.

“I thought we came out here with a purpose. We took more ownership and we had real good defense. What helped us win tonight was the players’ ability to focus on defense instead of the score” head coach Randy Jordan said.

Leading scores were Bryant with 14 points; Bradshaw,12 points; Alphonso McDew, 9; and Pearson, 9.

The varisty boys are now 10-2 and 3-0 in conference. They are also ranked 10th in the state.

They will host Topsail next Tuesday night.
