WILMINGTON — Mrs. Edna Honeycutt McKoy went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.

Visitation will be at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road in Wilmington at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, with service following at 11 a.m. Graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Edna and her husband Norwood had celebrated 66 years of marriage and were the proud parents of two boys, Bob McKoy and his wife Marilyn of Wilmington and Rick McKoy and his wife Beth of Wake Forest, NC. Their families include four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Traci Johnson and husband Neal, and daughters Whitley and Lexi; Kevin McKoy and wife Morgan, and children Ava and Harris; Jana Kohout and husband Brian and children Brody, Levi, and Aven; and Parker McKoy and wife Lindsay and daughter Emmersyn.

Born in Clinton, N.C. on Nov. 16, 1925 to Rufus and Laudie Honeycutt of Salemburg, she was the seventh child of 11 children whom her mother raised after the death of her father at age 49. Her mother’s strong faith and the support of family provided for a rich and loving childhood as they worked together on the family farm and attended Mt. Moriah Methodist Church in Sampson County.

Edna received her business training from King’s Business School 1942-43 and worked in the bookkeeping department of then Bank of Wilmington, now Bank of America, retiring after 35 years of service as head of Bookkeeping. A faithful member of Sunset Park Baptist Church for over 28 years and of Winter Park Baptist Church for the last 25 years, she was heavily involved in the Missionary Union and Women’s Ministries of both churches. She also was an active volunteer for over 17 years as Patient Representative at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her husband Norwood and two sons and their families as well as two sisters, Margaret Underwood and Mary Pope of Clinton. She was greatly loved by her family and will be sorely missed by all of her many family and friends.

Edna’s faith in God was vitally important to her and she has passed that down to her sons and their families. Written in her Bible, this verse guided her life daily: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” …and this hymn was her theme: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way…to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edna’s name to Winter Park Baptist Church Centennial Fund, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, N.C. 28403.
