Sampson County investigators are searching for a lone gunman believed to have robbed two local businesses in the Plain View community over the weekend.

In both incidents, cash was stolen but no one was injured.

According to Cpl. Marcus Smith, with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect is described only as a black man, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing around 155 pounds.

“We don’t have any more than that to go on at this time,” Smith noted.

The suspect is believed to be responsible for armed robberies at both Plain View Grocery, 5515 Plain View Hwy., on Saturday, Jan. 19, and Dollar General, 6934 Plain View Hwy., Sunday, Jan. 20.

The first incident took place around 7:30 p.m. when the suspect entered Plain View Grocery, brandishing a handgun and demanding money from the clerk. Once the cash was handed over, the suspect, reports note, left on foot.

A similar scenario was reported on Jan. 20, when deputies were called to investigate an armed robbery at Dollar General. In that incident, the suspect entered the store later in the evening, pulled a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.

Once the suspect had the money in hand, reports show he took off on foot.

The description of the suspect in the Plain View Grocery robbery, Smith said, matched that of the suspect in the Dollar General incident.

“We are seeking information on this case. If anyone knows anything, we would like for them to call us,” Smith said.
