Clinton’s varsity girls secured another win on the road Monday, this one against a hard-fighting Richlands team that made it difficult for the Lady Horses to get the W.

Coach Chris Owens said his Clinton girls got the job done, but he acknowledged it was a tough game from the start. “It’s always tough to play over here at Richlands. They try to slow things down on us, but I felt we secured our plays and did what we needed to do to win.”

Defense, he stressed, was once again the key to the victory.

“We held them pretty good. Our defense was good and that made the difference,” Owens stressed.

The game stayed close throughout the first half, with the Horses ahead 12-9 after the first quarter and able to take a slim 20-18 lead into the break.

But it was a strong third quarter that gave Clinton the edge they needed to secure the win. The Horses defense roared into action, holding the home team to only 3 points in the frame, while Clinton’s offense put up 10 points of their own.

Richlands fought back in the fourth quarter, but the earlier deficit was too much for the home team to overcome, giving Clinton their seventh conference win of the season.

Courtney Pearsall led scoring for Clinton with 14 points. Also scoring was Lexus Simpson, 8; Christian Glasper, 9; Tamara Murphy, 7; Tiana Altman, 2; and Bianca Owens, 1.

The win moves Clinton’s overall record to 14-4. They are 7-1 in the conference.
