The shots finally started to fall for Hobbton’s varsity boys Tuesday night, and the end result was a road win against the powerful James Kenan Tigers, a victory that coach Jeff Byrd said was a sweet one.

“This was a big road win for us, really big,” Byrd acknowledged. “We were finally able to make some shots. Our defense has been consistent all year, but we haven’t done so well with our shooting. I told the guys that they had to just keep shooting. That’s what they did against James Kenan, and the shots began to fall.”

Byrd said the win over Kenan puts Hobbton back on track after a series of disappointing losses. “We were on the skids a little bit, where we’d lost two or three in a row. This gives us a good lift.”

And he called the win a total team effort, noting that he dressed out nine players for the game and that all nine played a major role in the the win. “As a coach, that’s what you like to see,” Byrd said.

Jonathan Faison led scoring for the Wildcats with 17. Arell Owens and Rashaad Davis had 13 each.
