The Harrells Christian Academy varsity girls
got another win Friday night, this one a home thumping of Cape Fear Academy. Final score 44-15.
The boys weren’t so lucky, however, with HCA falling 42-28 to the visitors.
The Lady Crusaders simply outpowered the visitors from the start, jumping out to an early 18-2 lead and continuing to pound away throughout the game.
At the half, the HCA girls were up 28-4 and by the end of the third quarter the Lady Crusaders were in complete command with a 38-9 lead.
Bucky Everette led scoring for Harrells with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Haylee Parks had 7 points; Regan Murphy, 6 points, 3 rebounds and 6 steals; Chloe Campbell, Margaret Clark and Emily Benton contributed 4 each; and Anna Huff, Anna DeVane and Christian Campell added 2 a piece.
The win moves the Lady Crusaders to 15-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
They travel to Village Christian Tuesday, Feb. 5.
The varsity Crusaders couldn’t handle the visiting Cape Fear Academy, starting off slow and never able to gain the momentum needed to overcome their early deficit.
After the first quarter, Harrells was trailing 15-3, and at the half the Crusaders were behind 24-13.
The HCA boys tried to fight back after the break, but a strong Cape Fear defense held the Crusaders to 5 in the third quarter, and although the boys fought back to score 10 in the final frame, it wasn’t enough to overcome the earlier deficit.
Graham DiPinto led scoring with 9 points. Also scoring were Josh Driskill, 5; Zack Carlton, 4; Chris Cannady, 3; Patrick Walker, 5; Channing Kelly, 3; and John Wesley Hairr, 1.
The loss moves Harrells record to 4-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play. They, too, travel to Village Christian School Tuesday.
