The Tri-County Winter Track Championship was held recently at Trask High School and two Sampson County teams made it into the top 3. Trask was number one in both the men’s and women’s events with a total of 270 points; 157 women’s points and 113 men’s points..
Lakewood was runner-up with a total of 234.5 points — 128 women’s points and 106 men’s points. Midway came in third with a total of 137 points — 105 women’s points and 32 men’s points.
In individual events, the Leopards dominated in the High Jump with Ashton Hairr coming in first in the women’s division and Alex Brown first for the men’s. Leopard Tyler Spell was a close second.
Midway’s Chantal Williams brought home first place in the Shot Put.
Once again Lakewood’s Ashton Hairr took home the gold in the Women’s 55 Meter Hurtles, while Midway’s Caleb Sanders came in first in the Men’s 1600 Meter Run.
Lakewood also dominated in the 500 Meter Dash, with Janay Kinlock leading the pack in the women’s competition and her teammate Allison Shifflett coming in second. Leopard Ross Strickland was first in the Men’s, with his teammate Devante Williams the runner-up. Kinlock was the leader in the Girls’ Triple Jump, as well.
The Lady Leopards also came in first in the Women’s 1000 Meter Run, with Jessica Espinoza leading the pack.
The Raider boys dominated the 1000 Meter Run with Alex Boggs coming in first followed closely by his teammate Ritchel Cousar.
Lakewood’s Ryan Wuester was tops in the girls 3200 Meter Run, while Midway’s Michael McLamb lead the boys’ competition.
