The JV Dark Horses secured another road win Tuesday, defeating Topsail 50-39.

Solid defense and strong rebounding, said coach Bobby Lamb, was the key to the win. “Once again, the guys played solid defense and they were also working the board, and they did this against a bigger team. I’m really proud of them.”

Clinton took the early 13-9 first quarter lead and continued to pound away, ahead at the break 25-16.

The JV Horses continued to add to their lead in the second half while keeping their opponents at bay. At the end of the third period, Clinton was up 39-25.

“The guys were boxing out good, too. It all added up to a a great win.”

Lamb, as he always does, tipped his hat to the parents and fans who traveled to Topsail to support the JV Horses. “If you couple the support with the effort the team gave, it’s a winning combination,” Lamb stressed.

Raquan Faison led scoring Tuesday for Clinton with 11 points. Also scoring were Emmanuel Howard, 8; Jaquan McLean, 7; Kevin Scott, 6; Michael Boykin, 5; Kenjuan Morrisey, 4; Traquan Bryant, 4; Morgan Batchelor, 2; Maurice Robinson, 2; and Jaalen Best, 1.

Clinton plays host to a powerful East Duplin team Friday, a game that McLamb said was an important one as Clinton works to hold onto its first place ranking.

“East Duplin is a big game for us. We need to beat them to maintain our position in the conference.”

Clinton’s JV defeated the Panthers in their first outing, and Lamb said the goal is to do it again. “We go back to work and get ready for Friday.”
