The Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders — boys and girs — got back in the win column Thursday with home wins against Coastal Christian High School. The girls got a sound 60-49 win and the boys came out on top with a 38-31 victory.

Girls

The Lady Crusaders, coming off one of their few losses on the season, battled hard in their game against Coastal Thursday, but the visitors weren’t a pushover, particularly in the opening frame. The teams battled it out right down to the final tick, with the teams knotted at 13.

Harrells got a slight upper hand in the second period and were able to head into the locker room for the half up 24-19.

Coastal came back from the break determined to stay in the game, and erased their halftime deficit by quarter’s end. Heading into the final frame, the score was once again tied, this time at 38.

That’s when the Lady Crusaders poured on the juice, outscoring the visitors 22 to 11 in the final frame to get the win.

Regan Murphy and Choloe Campbell led scoring for Harrells with 13 points each. Also scoring were Bucky Everette, 10 points; Emily Benton, 6; Margaret Clark, 6; Haylee Parks, 5; Christian Campbell, 5; and Anna Huff, 2.

Boys

The boys game started out just as close as the Lady Crusaders, with the two teams struggling to score for much of the first quarter. At the end of the frame, the teams were tied at 6.

Strong defense by both teams kept the scoring low into the second quarter, with the Crusaders gaining only a slight edge. At the half, Harrells was ahead 13-10.

The Crusaders managed to put just a little more distance between themselves and the visitors in the third quarter, but scoring remained slow. At the end of the frame, Harrells was up 20-17.

Baskets were a little easier to come by in the third quarter, as both teams battled for possession and the win, and Coastal edging closer to the home team as the quarter wound down. But the Crusaders were able to hang on to get the 38-31 victory.

No individual stats were provided for the boys’ game.
