Sampson County Parks & Recreation concluded its 2013 basketball season last week and as noted by SCPR staff, it’s been one of the best thus far.

This basketball season consisted of 22 competitive teams (tive teams in 12U Girls, 11 teams in 12U Boys, and six teams in 15U Boys) and 10 developmental teams from all around the county.

The 2013 Competitive Basketball season was concluded with an end-of-season tournament, and as always, it was nothing short of breath taking! There were “Cinderella” stories, last second heroics, and stand-out performances

The tournaments began on Saturday, Feb. 16. Games were played at Hobbton Middle School and Old Midway Elementary School. As Saturday’s games ended, there was no doubt it would be an exciting finish. Second round action resumed on Monday night, February 18 as games were played at HMS, OMES, and Roseboro-Salemburg Middle School. The action was intense and the stage was set. The championship matchups were: 12U Girls- Northern Shock vs Western Liberty; 12U Boys- Northern Clemson vs Northern ECU; 15U Boys- Northern Jazz vs Northern 76ers.

The final regular season and tournament results are:

Northern Shock- 12U Girls Regular season and Tournament Champions. Northern Clemson- 12U Boys Regular Season and Tournament Champions. Northern Jazz- 15U Boys Regular Season and Tournament Champions. These three teams ended the season undefeated.

We would also like to acknowledge the following:

Western Liberty- 12U Girls Regular Season Runner-up and Tournament Runner-up.

Northern UNC and Northern Wake Forest- 12U Boys Regular Season Co-Runner-ups.

Northern ECU- 12U Boys Tournament Runner-up.

Western Celtics, Northern 76ers, and Northern Nets- 15U Boys Regular Season Co-Runner-ups.

N. 76ers- 15U Boys Tournament Runner-up.

Each and every participant displayed great sportsmanship and skill, and SCPR wants to thank everyone for their support. SCPR wants to congratulate you all on such a job well done!
