Midway Middle’s girls had the hot bats Monday afternoon when they opened their season, scorching the visiting Sampson Middle team 25-0 in 3 innings.

Lady Raider coach Sam Kitchin said he was pleased with his girls’ opening performance.

“They did a really good job,” the coach stressed. “It was a good way to begin the season.”

Savannah Lee was on the mound for the Midway girls, pitching a 2-hitter.

At bat, Blythe Best was 3-4 with a home run; Alex Canady was 3-3 with a triple; Abby Baggett, 2-2; and Emilee Bias, 2-2.

Kitchin praised the play of second baseman Hannah Lucas, noting that she made “three outstanding defensive plays” during the game.

Midway returns four eighth-graders to the team, with the rest seventh-graders.

“This is an outstanding group of young girls. I look forward to this season,” Kitchin said.

Midway is 1-0 and travel to Hobbton Middle Thursday for a 4 p.m. game.

Sampson’s stats were not called in.
