Greetings to all — again the weather is fabulous! Don’t question it, just accept it! God is God and He is in charge all the time!

My heart is saddened as I write this today. I just left the funeral of a dear friend — Delcie Norris. I loved Ms. Norris. She was a center participant, a friend and a mentor to me. She was a fine lady. Our sympathy goes out to the family. A special prayer is extended to her roommate at Southwood, Ms. Edna Strickland. We love you Edna. I know you will miss Ms. Norris, but remember our loss is heaven’s gain. God doesn’t make mistakes, so just wait for your new roommate.

Carolina Foot Care will be at the Center Monday, March 11, at 10 a.m. If anyone is interested in getting their feet looked at, come on out and get your nails trimmed and your feet massaged.

Remember to come out for the free tax assistance every Friday from 1 until 4 p.m. April 15. The walking team is doing well thanks to Ms. Linda Hill. I have to pull up the rear, but at least I walk! Come join us. You will feel better.

Again, we invite anyone who can sew to come and join our project “Sundresses for Haiti” and help with quilts and pillow for “Relay for Life”. What a great ministry we have with the materials and sewing machines. All you need to do is prepare your hands and heart to work. This is something we all can do. It will be so rewarding. Oprah Winfrey once said, “Be thankful for what you have and you will end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough!” Think about small things!! There is nothing under heaven that is so beautiful, so delicate, so exquisite, and as lovely as a Snowflake.

Are you funny about things like I am? I don’t like folks stirring in my pots. Carrie Underwood once said, “I do my own laundry, no matter what. The thought of someone else folding my clothes weirds me out!” We all have hang ups that are strange to others but we don’t think they are strange.

I seriously doubt that many people could not tell you who spoke this quote: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” (Martin Luther King, Jr.— I Have a Dream speech) I believe this quote still holds true today. King’s “I Have a Dream Speech” was delivered August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. I do believe that today this quote still holds true in many fashions other than the literal color of one’s skin. Our skin can be the actual color of our skin or it can be whether we are fat or skinny; whether we are tall or short; whether we are rich or poor. All these things are irrelevant in that these things are not “who we are as individuals.” Our essence, our true being is what is inside each of us. People may, for fleeting moments, remember the shoes you had on Sunday in church or they may remember the car you drove but in the end they remember most how you “were”. Were you honest? Were you dependable? Were you kind to others? Were you helpful to your neighbors in times of need? There have been many times in my life when I was “judged by the color of my skin.” And in the end those who judged me quickly learned that I was not like the rest. I was “me.” I didn’t follow the crowd for fear of being left out or being different. I didn’t do things just “because.” I did things and still do things to this day that are right in my heart. I do what is right. And even today, in my everyday life, I run into those people who “judged” me and they have respect for me and they always great me with a smile and fondness. I do the same for them. We all want to be remembered for the good in our life but that good means nothing if it’s not for the right reasons. What do you want to be remembered for? I know that I can lay my head down at night and know that I have done right by the people around me and I will continue to do so. What is the content of your character? Is it something you are proud of or is it something you need to work on?
