Editor:
With respect to the comments of Sampson County Commissioner Jarvis McLamb about the animal shelter situation, we in the animal rescue community have worked very hard to aid in the adoption, movement of dogs and cats to outside rescues, and help improve the conditions at the Smpson County Animal Shelter.
We believe that a strong positive image for the shelter is a strong positive image for Sampson County. We have no association with the Humane Society and are strongly opposed to the political agenda and interference of the Human Society and the inpact that it would have on the livestock industry of Sampson County.
Our only agenda is the welfare of the adoptable animals in the animal shelter. What Mr McLamb does not realize is that his threats of a tax on pets and shutting down the animal shelter would have a very negative effect on the image of Sampson County.
A county that needlessly kills puppies and kittens and taxes the ones that are left will have a difficul t time recruiting new industry in a modern society. I am sure that his opinions are not shared by the other county commissioners. I can only assume that he did not evaluate the full impact of his statement.
