Although Union would fall to Clinton Friday, it was not without a fight; in fact, the Spartans acquired the lead by a mere one point after the first quarter.
Clinton would rally for the lead in the second quarter, but Union was not backing down, keeping it within a one point game. The score was 30-29 at the half.
After the break, Clinton would pull ahead 48-41, but with only a seven-point lead, the game could still have fallen in either team’s favor.
As the minutes shed off the clock in the final quarter, both Clinton and Union were at it on the court. With a scant 43 ticks left, Union would close it to a four-point game, but Clinton’s Kenan Lanier would take it back after sinking two free throw shots. Another point by Donald Farrior would secure an eight-point lead and the win 65-58, Clinton’s game.
Leading players for Clinton were Demontio Bryant with 18 points; Ryan Chester with 11 points; Will Pearson with seven; Jamal Fryar with eight points; and Aaron Campbell with six points.
Top Union players were Jamari Caldwell with 10 points; Justin Smith with 15; BaySean Washington with nine; and Natrone Banks with 12 points.
