CLINTON — Mr. Charles Lee Matthis, 72, of 702 Walking Stick Trail, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at Grove Park Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Dudley Neal and the Rev. Dr. Glenn Jonas officiating. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
Mr. Matthis, born in Sampson County, was the son of the late Wilbert Lee Matthis and Winnie Mae Wells Matthis and was the husband of Anita Waters Matthis. He was a 1958 graduate of Taylors Bridge-Ingold (TBI) High School, a 1960 graduate of Wilmington College, and he owned and operated Charles L. Matthis Surveying, P.A. Charles was a member of the Clinton Rotary Club and Grove Park Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the church choir. He was a former member of the U.S. National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Waters Matthis of the home; his children, Sheri M. Peterson and husband, Ken of Clinton, Phillip Matthis and wife, Nicole of Clinton, Timothy Matthis of Clinton, and Holli Matthis Bell of Beulaville; a brother, Doug Matthis and wife, Sandra of Clinton; three grandchildren, Brandon Matthis, Bobby Matthis, and Breanah Bell; three nephews, Eric D. Matthis, Jared S. Matthis, Brandon P. Matthis; a niece, Brittany Lynn Matthis; his mother-in-law, Lois Butler Waters; and several aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton and other times at the home.
