Officials at Sampson Community College have seen a steady increase in enrollment numbers over the last few semesters. With hopes of continuing to see the numbers climb, the local community college will be hosting an open house next week.
The open house will be held Tuesday, April 24, and all those individuals who are interested in bettering their career choices are asked to come out to the college and participate in an event that is a follow up to the previous year’s hugely successful open house.
According to Blair Hairr, dean of student services, students have access to more courses through Sampson, as well as the Career and College Promise program. Both, she says, have attributed to the increased number of students enrolled.
Dan Grubb, public relations officer for the community college, said the open house event returned a few years ago, after several years of a hiatus. Last year’s event, Grubb added, was very successful and school personnel are hopeful this year’s event will provide the much needed information to prospective students.
“Open house allows prospective students to learn more about the opportunities and services provided at Sampson Community College,” Grubb said.
During last year’s open house, attendees received essential information on how to begin or continue their educational journey at Sampson Community College.
“Though Sampson Community College subscribes to an open door admissions policy, it is important for prospective students to realize that completing admissions and financial aid is a process,” Grubb added. “Open house allows SCC to communicate this process with the community, in hopes that prospective students will leave the event feeling well-informed and equipped to begin at SCC.”
Attendees will be invited to visit with program representatives and learn more about the educational opportunities and job-training provided by curriculum and continuing education programs. Attendees will then be guided to learn about the admission process, financial aid, program offerings, counseling and academic services.
“Many of the faculty and staff of Sampson Community College were once that student who was unsure how to begin, or eager to learn more about, attending college,” Grubb said. “We are passionate about the programs and training offered by the college and look forward to providing prospective students with the information they need to proceed with their educational and career goals.”
According to Grubb, sessions in admissions and counseling, financial aid, program overviews and general questions will be offered between 5-7 p.m.
